Old Elk Rye Whiskey Store Pick is Loch & Key Society's Cherry Pickin' barrel: a seven-year single cask of Old Elk's 95% rye / 5% malted barley whiskey, bottled at 121.6 proof. Greg Metze built this mash on European rye after decades at MGP; the Westborough, Massachusetts barrel club selected this cask. Give it a large cube and let the proof open.
At this mash and age the sip runs crisp rye spice, peach, cinnamon sugar, and allspice, with caramel rounding the middle. Seven years in new oak adds weight the grain can carry. The finish dries slightly, warm and spicy, as the cube brings the heat down.
