Orphan Barrel Castle’s Curse 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Orphan Barrel Castle's Curse 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a limited Diageo orphan from Teaninich in the Northern Highlands, a still-working distillery whose malt rarely appears under its own name. Selected casks spent fourteen years in European oak and were bottled at 94.8 proof (47.4% ABV). That wood is what you taste as tangerine, poached pear, and confectionery around a light malt core. This Highland bottling is an after-dinner dram.
Tangerine, poached pear, and sweet confectionery lead, with dried herbs, vanilla, and red apple on the palate. Mint and baking spice keep the sip bright, and the finish runs long with a gentle spice. It drinks easy and fruit-forward: a scarce chance to taste Teaninich as a single malt.
