Orphan Barrel Woven Honor 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Orphan Barrel Woven Honor 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is Diageo’s U.S.-only Linkwood bottling: eighteen years in American oak, filled at 92.6 proof, released once and then gone. The casks sat at Linkwood Distillery on the outskirts of Elgin — founded in 1821 — while the whisky kept its grassy, floral line without a second-wood finish. Orphan Barrel exists to pull overlooked stock into the light; this single malt is one limited batch. Save it for an after-dinner dram.
Green apple, lemon zest, vanilla, and honeycomb stand out on the palate, with pear, toasted nuts, and a thread of honey behind them. The sip is medium-bodied and a little oily — citrus and nougat, then a peppery close with dark honey. Floral grass and orchard fruit hang on after the glass is empty.
