Seelbach’s Private Reserve 20 Year Old American Light Whiskey 142 Proof is a 963-bottle independent dump from MGPi in Lawrenceburg, Indiana: 99% corn and 1% malted barley, aged 20 years 2 months in used J.E. Seagram’s and Four Roses bourbon barrels, then bottled uncut in Jacksonville. Two decades of oxidation in those seasoned casks turn the whiskey oily, with antique wood and cigar-box depth. Pour it over a large cube.
Caramelized turbinado and brown butter open onto dried strawberry and tangerine. The sip is thick with vanilla frosting, powdered donut, and a flash of charred pineapple before sweet oak and maduro tobacco take over. Leather, dark chocolate, and sticky toffee close a long, warm finish that drinks softer than 142 proof.
