Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash Whiskey 2025 Release is Michter’s limited Legacy Series whiskey, named for John Shenk’s 1753 distillery. Kentucky sour mash with a good amount of rye, then a portion finished in Vosges French oak that was air-dried 24 months and toasted, never charred — that toast keeps burnt sugar, dried fruit, and spice instead of heavy char. Bottled at 91.2 proof. Open it in cold weather.
Toasty burnt sugar, honey, and baking spice lead. Dried apricot, cherry, fig, and toffee fill a creamy sip with nougat and clove. Cinnamon and dry toasted wood linger on a smooth, spicy finish.
