Shortbarrel Tokaji Cask Finish Rye Whiskey is the Atlanta house's Curator's Series rye: four 95/5 ryes, about 40% aged 10 years or more, finished in Hungarian Tokaji dessert-wine casks and bottled at 104 proof (52% ABV). The old-stock rye is why spice and bread still lead; Tokaji wood is why golden raisin and honey lift the sip instead of a dry rye-only close. An after-dinner dram.
Golden raisin and brown sugar open first, then rye spice and black cherry. Spiced honey, leather, and mixed dried fruit stand out on the palate; the mouthfeel is dense and sweet-earthy, and the finish lingers on honey, toasted oak, and light rye heat.
