Starlight Distillery Carl T. Huber's VDN Cask Finished Rye Whiskey is a single-barrel Indiana rye aged at least four years in new charred oak, then finished three to eight months in Spanish Vino de Naranja casks from Huelva and Málaga — orange wine made by macerating peel with white wine. The rye mash (typically 80–90% rye with malted barley) picks up candied orange peel on top of the grain spice. This named SKU is often around 106 proof; stir it into a Manhattan.
Candied orange peel and herbaceous dill lead, with orange zest, cinnamon, and cardamom filling a spicy, citrus-forward sip. Dried cherry and caramel sit underneath the rye. Burnt orange and baking spice linger on a warm finish.
