Tears of Llorona No. 3 Extra Añejo Tequila
Tears of Llorona No. 3 is an extra añejo from Jalisco, made from Blue Weber agave and aged five years across Scotch whisky, sherry and Cognac barrels. Additive free, so what reaches the bottle is the agave and the wood, nothing else.
Sherry raisin and brandied cherry sit close together on the palate, dark and slightly sweet, with cooked agave holding steady underneath. Butterscotch softens the texture, and walnut gives the finish a dry, faintly bitter edge that keeps the fruit from turning syrupy. Cocoa and vanilla linger last.
At 86 proof (43% ABV), it drinks gently enough for a weeknight and carries enough weight for a slow evening after dinner. Sip it neat in a small tulip glass, where the cocoa comes forward. The one-liter bottle means there is more of it than the usual pour allows.
