The Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured first in American oak, then in European oak sherry casks, with seventeen years in wood so deeper vanilla, green apple, and creamy toffee come forward. David C. Stewart designed that two-stage path so sherry spice and dried fruit sit on bourbon-cask vanilla. Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV). Filling of this age ended in 2021, so remaining bottles are allocated leftovers of a once-regular release. It is an after-dinner dram.
Honey, vanilla, and green apple lead, then dried fruit, toasted almond, and cinnamon stand out on the palate. Creamy toffee fills a medium, oily sip. The finish runs on vanilla, honey, and a warm spicy sweetness.
