The Balvenie The Edge of Burnhead Wood 19 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Balvenie The Edge of Burnhead Wood 19 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a limited Stories bottling from Dufftown — Story 6, and the first Balvenie made entirely from ingredients grown on the distillery estate. Home-grown barley is floor-malted on site, the water comes from the Conval hills, and the whisky takes its name from Burnhead Wood, the heather hillside at the edge of Balvenie Mains. Nineteen years in American oak ex-bourbon casks keep tropical fruit bright instead of drying the sip out, bottled at 97.4 proof (48.7% ABV). A quiet evening pour.
Lime and guava lead, sharp and tropical, before spiced honey and baked orange settle in. Vanilla, white pepper, and a thread of light smoke stand out on the palate; the texture is generous rather than heavy, and the finish stays bright with citrus and warm spice.
