The Hakushu 12 Year Old 100th Anniversary Japanese Single Malt Whisky is the forest distillery's 12-year malt in a 2023 limited commemorative design, bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV). Unpeated American-oak and sherry casks plus a gently peated malt, aged on the slopes of Mt. Kaikomagatake with granite-filtered mountain water, are why green apple and mint stay crisp while smoke stays in the background. A bottle for a quiet evening pour.
Basil, pine needle, and green apple open, then sweet pear, mint, and kiwi. Green tea and subtle smoke stand out on the palate; the mouthfeel is smooth and refreshing, and the finish lingers on chopped mint, herbal spice, and a clean citrus lift.
