This is a rich, nutty pure malt with weight behind it. Eighteen years in ex-bourbon casks have pulled the whisky toward brown butter and hazelnut, with vanilla running underneath from first sip to last. Tottori sits between mountains and sea in western Japan, and the malt that comes from there carries a certain quiet density.
Stone fruit softens the entry before the whisky turns savory, a touch of sage cutting through the sweetness. Toasted almond and cigar box fill out the back palate, and mocha lingers longest. At 100 proof (50% ABV) the texture stays oily and full rather than sharp, so the flavors hold their shape even over ice.
