The Last Drop 1971 Blended Scotch Whisky is a limited 45-year triple-matured blend of malt and grain from some forty distilleries, all distilled in 1971. First blended in 1983, the reserve spent nine years in eleven ex-oloroso sherry butts, then twenty-four more in nine ex-American oak barrels; that path is why raisins and fig sit over orange and honey. Only 1,352 bottles, at 93.4 proof (46.7% ABV). It is a celebration pour.
Raisins, sultanas, and glacé fruit lead, then figs, orange rind, and florals fill a mouth-coating sip. Honey, stewed apple, and toasted almond ride through the middle. The finish is exceptionally long, with spice and a last suggestion of smoke.
