The Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak 110 Proof Single Malt Scotch Whisky spends 12 years in predominantly sherry-seasoned European oak on the Easter Elchies estate in Speyside, then goes to bottle at 110 proof (55% ABV). That extra strength thickens the sherry fruit and lets European oak spice show as ginger, cinnamon, and dark chocolate. A cold-weather pour.
Sticky dates and cherry compote open, with dried orange and cacao nibs behind them. Sultanas, stem ginger, star anise, and mandarin stand out on the palate with dark-chocolate espresso; the mouthfeel is full, and the finish runs long on treacle toffee, mocha, and sweet cinnamon.
