WhistlePig 12 Year Old Old World Rye Whiskey spends twelve years in new American oak, then is split among Madeira (63%), Sauternes (30%), and Port (7%) casks and married back together. Bottled at 86 proof at the Shoreham, Vermont farm, it was built so all three wines show: Madeira richness, Sauternes honey, and a Port glint of dark fruit. Robb Report named it Best of the Best. Pour it with a long dinner.
Caramel, vanilla, and winter fruit lead. Rye spice, apricot, raisin, date, and honey stand out on the palate. Dark chocolate and more winter fruit close a soft, fruit-led finish.
