Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Series No. 16 Very Fine Rare Bourbon
Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Series No. 16 Very Fine Rare Bourbon is the 2020 limited Master's Collection from Versailles, Kentucky: Chris Morris and Elizabeth McCall batched Woodford bourbon that includes 17-year barrels distilled in 2003, the year Morris became master distiller, with other house stock. The name borrows old auction language for highly aged barrel lots. Copper pot stills, a 72% corn mash, and heat-cycled rickhouses built the whiskey; it is bottled at 90.4 proof (45.2% ABV) so honey, apple, and clove stay drinkable. It is an after-dinner dram.
Honey-sweetened oak and apple peel lead, with caramel, brown sugar, and cocoa filling a smooth, easy sip. Clove and citrus stand out on the palate; raisin, tobacco, and malty sweetness ride a long, drying finish.
