Easy to pour and easy to drink. At 80 proof (40% ABV), this bourbon is soft enough to sip neat straight from the bottle, and it holds its shape well in a highball or a simple old fashioned. Vanilla and caramel lead, sweet but not sugary, with dried fruit sitting underneath and giving the whiskey a little more weight than the proof suggests.
Ten years in American oak barrels account for the toasted oak that runs through the back half, along with a dusting of baking spice and a faint trace of tobacco on the finish. Nothing is sharp here. The wood shows up as warmth rather than tannin, which is what a decade of quiet maturation tends to do at this strength.
Distilled in 2009 and bottled without additives. A 750 mL bottle that earns its place on the shelf as a bourbon you reach for on a weeknight rather than save for something.
