I.W. Harper 15 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is fifteen-year Kentucky bourbon from Isaac Wolfe Bernheim's 1872 brand, brought back by Diageo in 2015 as a limited, allocated bottling. Distilled at New Bernheim in Louisville, aged in Stitzel-Weller warehouses, and bottled at 86 proof in Tullahoma, it uses a high-corn mash of 86% corn, 6% rye, and 8% malted barley — which is why it stays creamy and fruit-forward after a decade and a half in oak. A slow neat pour.
Cherry, apricot, and lush fruit open, then corn sweetness, caramel, and vanilla. Oak and leather arrive mid-sip without turning the glass tannic, with dark chocolate and a little mint. The mouthfeel is creamy. The finish is long, warm, and oaky, with vanilla and caramel still there at the end.
