Ardbeg Anamorphic Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Heavily toasted oak casks set the tone here. That deep char pulls the whisky toward something roasted and dark, and it meets Islay peat head on rather than softening it. The result is a single malt with real weight to it, bottled at 97.8 proof.

Peat smoke leads, thick and coastal, but it never drinks alone. Espresso and dark chocolate sit underneath, bitter in the best way, giving the smoke something solid to lean against. Pepper flickers through the back palate, and charred oak lingers long after the smoke has thinned out. There is a warmth to the texture that keeps everything from turning austere.

At 48.9% ABV it holds its shape neat, and a few drops open the roasted notes without dulling the smoke. A 750 mL bottle of Islay whisky you can pour on a Tuesday and still feel like the evening got better.
