Ardbeg Scorch Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the 2021 Ardbeg Day bottling, aged in the distillery’s most heavily charred ex-bourbon American oak. That cracked, alligator-style char pushes the peat toward soot, grilled meat, and tar instead of leaving the smoke clean. The public release is 92 proof. A separate Committee edition was bottled at 51.7% ABV; this listing matches the 92-proof Feis Ile release, the one Whisky Advocate scored 93.
Ardbeg’s own notes are oily from the first sip: soot and sweet smoke, aniseed, charred oak, grilled meat, black liquorice, and medicinal lozenge, closing on a long tarry finish. Whisky Advocate found the peat more balanced than the name suggests — charcoal and iodine beside baked apple, bitter chocolate, cooked banana, and dark berries — with brine and dried seashells on the nose and a long close.
