Basil Hayden 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey is a limited Beam release, aged 10 years and bottled at 80 proof. It arrived in 2020 as the first age-stated rye under the Basil Hayden name, and the brand now lists it as no longer in stores. A decade in new charred oak builds vanilla, caramel, and oak around a lighter rye spice, so the pour stays gentle for a 10-year rye.
Pear and apple sit with vanilla and honey, and clove, allspice, and nutmeg show the years in oak. Whisky Advocate also found violets, cedar, and leather on a low-proof frame. The body stays light. Breaking Bourbon’s glass was thin, with white pepper and a short rye-spice finish, and a little tobacco hangs on at the end.
