BLACKENED x Wes Henderson 6 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in White Port Wine Casks, Cask Strength is the second Masters of Whiskey bottle, made with Wes Henderson, the Angel’s Envy co-founder whose reputation is port-finished whiskey. The whiskey is a sourced Kentucky straight bourbon aged 6 years, distillery and mash bill unpublished, finished in white port casks. White port is drier and brighter than ruby port, so pear, grape, and citrus acidity come through with the bourbon. The finishing barrels also go through Black Noise, low-frequency vibration meant to work the wine wood harder. It is non-chill-filtered and 116.2 proof.

Blackened’s note is pear, raisin, cinnamon, and cigar box, then pear, honey, chipotle cinnamon, vanilla, barn hay, and walnut, on a long viscous finish. Breaking Bourbon found the nose light for the proof, white grape and pear up front, lemon acidity through the middle, and a turn into pepper on the finish. Bourbon Obsessed tasted a darker fruit line — plum, raisin, caramel, black cherry — with oak forward and spice that builds.
