Bruichladdich Black Art Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Edition 11.1 is the 2023 secret annual release, a 1994 vintage aged 24 years and bottled at 88.4 proof. Head distiller Adam Hannett builds it only from pre-renaissance casks that have matured on Islay, and he is the one person who knows the recipe. Aged 24 years in that undisclosed oak, it comes back as dried fruit, honey, and Christmas cake.
Dried fruit comes first, then poached pear and mango. Honey, praline, and a thread of cinnamon run through the middle. Toasted oak and barley sugar sit underneath. The finish is long and rounded, like Christmas cake, with sultana, marzipan, and honey still in it.
