Buffalo Trace Kosher Rye
Buffalo Trace Kosher Rye is being read here as the rye-recipe bourbon in Buffalo Trace’s annual kosher release, because a separate Kosher Straight Rye is on the shelf at a higher price. The bottle itself may say Straight Rye. If it does, this copy is the wrong one. The listing is 94 proof, from Frankfort. Reviewed bottles of that rye-recipe bourbon were aged 7 years in new oak set aside with the Chicago Rabbinical Council. Those barrels were sold to a non-Jewish owner so the whiskey could age through Passover, then the bottling line was flushed before filling. It is cRc certified, released after the holiday, and it is not kosher for Passover.
The rye-recipe review, not a settled identity for this listing, is mixed berries and a little citrus on burnt caramel and oak, with rye spice and leather in the background. That sip stays smooth until a late rise of heat, then finishes dry on seasoned oak.
