Calumet Farm 15 Year Old Single Rack Black Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Calumet Farm 15 Year Old Single Rack Black Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the Whirlaway edition, bottled at 105 proof and left non-chill filtered. Western Spirits took 19 barrels from one center-cut rack of bourbon the brand lists as distilled and aged in Bardstown, barreled in March 2006, and bottled it at Three Springs in Bowling Green. The mash is 74 percent corn, 18 percent rye, and 8 percent malted barley. Fifteen years in that rack is what pushes the whiskey toward dark fruit and toffee, thick and sweet, with tobacco and dry oak underneath. The brand lists the release as limited.
Calumet tastes toffee, dark fruit, and oak, with sweet tobacco and rye on a slightly dry close. Drinkhacker found pepper, prune, brownie, leather, raisin, and roasted nut, and a thick sweetness that outlasts the spice. The mouthfeel stays viscous, and raisin, leather, and tobacco hang on after the toffee fades.
