Château Les Trois Croix Fronsac 2016
Dry, fresh and elegant. This is a medium-bodied Right Bank Bordeaux with bright fruit and firm structure. The nose shows red cherry and raspberry, with rose petal and graphite. The palate brings red and dark berries with a savory, mineral thread. The tannins are grippy but fine. A lively line of acidity leads to a dense, solid finish.
Château Les Trois Croix is the family estate of Patrick Léon, longtime technical director at Château Mouton Rothschild. The vineyard sits on Fronsac’s limestone plateau, where clay-limestone soils over rocky outcrops suit Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The blend is Merlot-dominant, with about 20% Cabernet Franc, and the wine is aged in oak barrels. The 2016 vintage gave fresh, balanced wines. It is bottled at 14.5% ABV in a 750 mL bottle.
Now in its drinking window, it should continue to show well through about 2030. Decant for 30 minutes and pair with roast lamb, duck or beef.
