Coppercraft Single Barrel 407 Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Coppercraft Single Barrel 407 Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a single-barrel bourbon from Coppercraft Distillery in Holland, Michigan, bottled at 97 proof. Coppercraft selects Indiana distillate, typically the 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malt mash from Lawrenceburg, then finishes the proofing in house over weeks the way a brandy blender would. ABC Fine Wine lists this 407 bottling as a seven-year Indiana barrel released in tribute to Orlando Magic fans and named for Central Florida’s 407 area code; the distillery’s 2022 partnership made 407 Bourbon a short Central Florida run. One cask, not a dump from the distillery’s 11-year single-barrel program.
Corn sweetness and vanilla sit on oak and rye spice, the way that mash and new charred American oak usually drink after several years in the barrel. Butterscotch and a warm baking-spice finish follow, with a leather-and-tobacco edge on the nose. It is a focused, medium-weight bourbon at 97 proof, oak-forward without turning bitter.
