Crown Royal 18 Year Old Extra Rare Canadian Whisky
Crown Royal 18 Year Old Extra Rare Canadian Whisky is a limited Gimli blend in which every whisky has aged 18 years, bottled at 80 proof. Three of the distillery's oldest component whiskies — corn, rye, and barley mash bills matured in both new charred oak and used American oak — are married for this bottle. It stepped in after the LaSalle-stock XR was discontinued, and it is a different whisky: longer-aged Gimli, not that last Waterloo run. Eighteen years in mixed oak is why the rye spice stays gentle and the caramel turns velvety.
Vanilla and ripe stone fruit, peach especially, open on light caramel and polished oak. Nougat and a little orange linger as it sits. The mouthfeel is velvety and full for 80 proof, with almost no astringency, and the finish is long, sweet, and quietly spiced.
