Don Julio 1942 Añejo Tequila
Don Julio 1942 is an añejo built for slow sipping. Blue Weber agave from the highlands of Jalisco spends 30 months in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, and the result is soft, warm and unmistakably sweet-edged.
Roasted agave leads, still green and earthy under a thick coat of vanilla and caramel. Chocolate sits deeper in the body, giving the tequila real weight for 80 proof (40% ABV). Pepper and toasted oak tighten things at the close, keeping the sweetness from turning heavy.
This is the bottle you open when something good has happened, or when you simply want a better pour than usual. It needs nothing beyond a small glass at room temperature, though a single large cube does no harm on a warm evening. The 750 mL bottle, tall and tapered, tends to stay out on the counter rather than disappear into a cabinet.
