Fortuna 8 Summers Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Rare Character's 8-year, barrel-proof revival of Phil Hollenbach's 19th-century Fortuna brand, bottled at 121.3 proof. Pablo Moix and Peter Nevenglosky brought the label back in 2022, aiming at the old Fortuna profile from vintage bottles, then put eight summers of new charred American oak on Kentucky straight bourbon and left the water out. Great for a cold night and a slow pour.
Caramel and vanilla lead, with dark chocolate and toasted oak behind them. Allspice and brown sugar keep it from going soft. The mouthfeel is hot and coating. The finish is long, sweet, and spicy, oak and pepper at the end.
