L’Encantada X.O Bas-Armagnac
L'Encantada bottles X.O Bas-Armagnac at cask strength, and this one lands at 93.6 proof (46.8% ABV). That extra weight shows up as texture more than heat: thick, a little chewy, with dried prune and apricot leading the way. Orange peel cuts through the fruit and keeps it from turning sweet.
Underneath sits caramel, softened by vanilla and a dusting of baking spice from years in Gascon oak. Ugni Blanc and Baco 22A give the brandy its shape, the Baco in particular lending a rounder, plummier body than most French brandy has. It drinks well straight from the bottle, though a few drops of water open up the fruit if you prefer.
This is an approachable introduction to Bas-Armagnac in a 750 mL bottle, the kind you pour after dinner without ceremony or a reason.
