Sartori di Verona Amarone della Valpolicella
Dry, dark and velvety, with warmth and depth. This is a full-bodied Amarone with concentrated fruit and a rich texture. The nose shows cherry jam, dried fruit and raisin. Cinnamon and white pepper follow. The palate brings ripe cherry, dried plum and a hint of cocoa. Long aging in large oak casks rounds it out. The tannins are supple, and the finish is warm and spicy.
Sartori di Verona is a fourth-generation family winery founded in 1898 in Negrar. Its Amarone comes from hillside vineyards northeast of Verona and blends about 50% Corvina Veronese, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% other native varieties. Hand-picked grapes are dried for about three months (appassimento), then fermented in steel. The wine matures in medium and large oak casks for around three years and rests in bottle before release. It is bottled at 15% ABV in a 750 mL bottle.
Decant for an hour and serve with braised meats, game or aged cheeses.
