Auchangie Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

Auchangie Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is The Lost Distillery Company’s homage to Auchnagie, the Perthshire farm distillery whose malt sat inside Dewar’s until the stills went quiet in 1911. The blenders rebuilt that style from the ground it stood on: mineral water off Loch Broom, bere barley that malted unevenly and left a green cereal edge, and heather-and-moss peat that perfumed the fire instead of burying it in smoke. What is in the bottle is a marriage of living single malts, unchillfiltered and free of caramel color, so the grain and the pepper stay audible.

Honey, cereal, citrus, and black pepper are the notes that keep returning, with green apple, soft melon, and a light herbal lift underneath. Whisky Advocate’s Jonny McCormick found an early batch gossamer-light, the sweetness only dabbed with spice before it faded. The Classic bottling at The Whisky Shop reads the same shape: floral and honeyed, dried fruit and pepper, then citrus on a sweet close. The body stays soft, and the finish is gentle rather than long.
