Blanton’s Straight From the Barrel Bourbon Whiskey is one Warehouse H barrel bottled uncut and unfiltered, Mash Bill #2, with nothing put back in. Strength changes with the barrel. What is in the glass is Blanton’s with the water left out: oak, vanilla, and spice at full volume, allocated, and distinct from both the 93-proof Original and the 103-proof Gold.
Dark chocolate, caramel, and toasted nut are the notes Buffalo Trace keeps on the card, with warm vanilla, oak, and a rich spice that can read as butterscotch or honey. Independent barrels add raisin or dried fruit and a heavier oak line. The mouthfeel is oily, and the finish is long and hot, because the barrel strength is still there.
