Buffalo Trace O.F.C. Bourbon Whiskey
Buffalo Trace O.F.C. Bourbon Whiskey is the vintage-dated bourbon Buffalo Trace bottles from the Frankfort distillery Colonel E. H. Taylor Jr. named Old Fashioned Copper in 1870. Each release is dated to the year it was distilled, aged for decades in new charred American oak in the steam-heated warehouses Taylor introduced, and poured at 90 proof into hand-cut crystal with copper lettering, a wooden case, and a provenance card. The lots are small and allocated. Cherry, caramel, and oak are the thread through the vintages Buffalo Trace has published.
That cherry stays dark, and the sweetness tastes cooked: caramel, butterscotch, or honey, depending on the year. Oak is in the middle of the sip, not just the finish. The finish runs long and dries out, toward coffee and herbs in some vintages and toward spice in others.
