Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Buffalo Trace’s core 10-year bourbon, bottled at 90 proof from Mash Bill #1 — a low-rye Kentucky recipe aged a full decade in new charred American oak. Sazerac moved the brand to Frankfort after 1989 and, by 2005, settled it at this smoother 90-proof strength. Barrels are hand-selected for the 10-year; the 1.75 L bottle is the same whiskey as the 750 mL. Fits a cold-weather night as easily as an after-dinner dram.
Toffee, orange peel, honey, leather, and oak fill the nose. The palate is bold and dry: candied almond, rich cocoa, vanilla, and caramel, with baking spice and a little fruit. The finish is dry and lingering, oak and toffee holding after the sweetness steps back.
