Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 750ml
Dry, ripe and supple. This is a medium- to full-bodied Cabernet with rich fruit and a fresh, mineral edge. The nose shows violets and toasted baking spice, with slate and cedar. The palate brings concentrated black cherry and cassis, accented by star anise. The tannins are fine and chalky. Bright freshness carries the fruit through a lingering finish.
Faust is made by the Huneeus family, owners of Quintessa in Rutherford. The core of the wine comes from the family’s estate vineyard in Coombsville, one of Napa’s coolest sub-appellations, along with Rutherford fruit and small lots from Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. The 2022 blends 86% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and was aged for 20 months in French oak, 25% of it new. It is bottled at 14.5% ABV in a 750 mL bottle.
Open and approachable now, it should drink well through about 2030. Decant for 30 minutes and serve with steak.
