Le Bon Rosé Wine
Rosé Champagne can get precious. This one doesn't. It's a straightforward blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier from Champagne, made to be opened on a Tuesday as easily as a birthday.
Strawberry and raspberry lead, bright and clearly fruited rather than jammy. Underneath there's a floral lift of violets and a green herbal edge that keeps things from turning sweet. Time on the lees in bottle shows up as creamy brioche on the finish, with citrus cutting back through at the end. At 12% ABV it stays light on its feet.
Serve it properly cold, in a 750 mL bottle that handles a small table without much ceremony. It works as well before dinner as it does alongside it, and it doesn't demand much attention to be enjoyed.
