Macurichos Arroqueño Mezcal
Oaxaca is the heartland of mezcal, and this bottle comes from the slow end of that tradition: agave cooked in an earthen pit, then distilled by hand. The agave here is Arroqueño, a large, late-maturing variety that tends to give weight and sweetness rather than sharp edges.
Roasted agave leads, thick and faintly caramelized, with tropical fruit sitting just behind it. Herbs run through the center, green and slightly bitter, and a mineral streak keeps everything grounded. The smoke is earthy rather than ashy, and a peppery warmth lingers after the fruit has faded.
Additive free, so what you taste is the agave and the fire it was cooked over. Serve it at room temperature in a small copita, sipped slowly. The 750 mL bottle is a good one to keep open on the shelf for evenings that deserve a little more attention.
