Myers’s Signature Cask Eagle Rare 17 Barrel Finished Rum

This is a Jamaican rum with its fruit turned up and its sweetness kept in check. Fifteen years is a long time in a warm climate, where rum takes on color and oak character faster than it would somewhere cooler, and this one has come out the other side with plenty of wood behind the fruit.

Ripe banana and pineapple lead, the kind of bright, slightly funky fruit Jamaica is known for. Molasses sits underneath and gives the palate weight. Toasted oak comes in late, dry rather than sweet, and it lingers longer than you might expect at 86 proof (43% ABV). Ex-bourbon barrels have left their mark in the vanilla and baking spice that run through the whole thing.

Nothing has been added after distillation, so what you taste is the rum and the barrel. The 750 mL bottle works neat, over ice, or in a daiquiri that needs some backbone.
