Ripe black and red fruit make this Toro easy to approach for its size, while eucalyptus and aromatic herbs keep it from tasting only sweet. Dry and full-bodied, with soft tannins and vibrant acidity, it has enough presence after a short decant. Cedar, cinnamon and tobacco leaf give the finish a long, cool edge.
Termes is the approachable tier of Bodega Numanthia in Spain’s Toro DO. The 2006 is 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) from 30-year-old ungrafted vines cropped at low yields. After malolactic fermentation it aged 20 months in French oak barrels (20% new). Bottled at 15% ABV in a 750 mL bottle.
Decant 30 minutes and serve around 61°F (16°C) with grilled steak, lamb or aged Manchego. Still enjoyable with further cellaring.
