Obsidian Wine Co. Poseidon Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir
Dry, bright, elegant and fresh. This is a medium-bodied Pinot Noir with pretty red fruit and lively acidity. The nose shows rose petal and red cherry, with tea leaf and herbs. The palate brings cherry, raspberry and strawberry. Hungarian oak adds warm spice and an earthy note. The tannins are fine and silky, and the finish is clean and lifted.
Poseidon Vineyard sits at the confluence of Carneros Creek and the Napa River, near San Pablo Bay in Carneros, Napa Valley. The Molnar family planted it in 1973, and cool, foggy mornings and warm afternoons give the fruit a slow, even ripening. The wine is 100% Pinot Noir, mostly the Martini clone, hand-harvested and fermented in small lots with some whole clusters. It is aged on its lees in large-format Hungarian oak from the family’s Kádár cooperage, which keeps the spice subtle, and bottled in a 750 mL bottle.
Serve slightly cool with salmon, duck, mushrooms or roast pork.
