From Champagne, this is the house style of Perrier-Jouët in its most straightforward form: a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, aged on the lees in bottle before release. That time gives the wine its soft bready edge without taking away any of its brightness.
Citrus leads, clean and lifted, with ripe pear just behind it. White flowers sit over the top, and underneath there's brioche and a little toasted almond, along with a fresh mineral streak that keeps the finish dry. At 12% ABV, it drinks easily and doesn't tire the palate over a long evening.
The 1.75 L bottle is built for a table with people around it, so plan on serving it well chilled and pouring generously. It works as an aperitif, but it holds up just as happily through a meal.
