Saldo Zinfandel

Dry, bold and spicy. This is a full-bodied Zinfandel with ripe dark fruit and a soft, plush texture. The nose shows blackberry, black currant and black pepper. The palate brings dark chocolate, fig paste and baking spice. American and French oak add a hint of coffee and cinnamon. The tannins are soft and round, and the finish is long and concentrated.

Saldo, meaning “to join” or “to weld,” comes from The Prisoner Wine Company and was born from Zinfandel vineyards too good to pass up while sourcing The Prisoner. Grapes from more than 100 vineyards across California, including old vines in Mendocino and Sonoma along with Lodi and Amador County, are blended together. Zinfandel leads, with Petite Sirah, Syrah and Primitivo adding color and depth. It is aged about nine months in American and French oak and bottled in a 750 mL bottle.

Serve slightly cool with barbecue, burgers or spice-rubbed ribs.
