Sandeman 10 Year Old Tawny Porto
Sweet, mellow, rich and nutty. This is a full-bodied tawny Port with a smooth, supple texture. The nose shows ripe red fruit, jam and roasted nuts, with raisin and vanilla. The palate brings hazelnut, dried fig, caramel and cherry, with hints of cocoa and spice. Long cask aging adds a mellow, rounded texture. Fresh acidity balances the sweetness, and the finish is long and persistent.
Sandeman’s 10 Year Old Tawny draws on old-vine fruit from the Cima Corgo of Portugal’s Douro Valley, including the house’s Quinta do Seixo, where vines grow on steep schist terraces. Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão and Touriga Nacional are trodden in granite lagares and fortified with grape spirit. The wines age in oak casks in Vila Nova de Gaia, and the final blend combines wines of nine to twelve years. It is bottled at 20% ABV in a 750 mL bottle.
Serve slightly cool with crème brûlée, pecan pie or aged cheeses.
