Courvoisier X.O Cognac
From the Cognac region, where Ugni Blanc grapes are distilled into eau-de-vie and left to soften in French oak, comes an XO that drinks with real generosity. Candied fruit leads, sweet and slightly sticky, with orange peel cutting through it.
Underneath sits caramel and a dusting of cocoa, warm rather than heavy. Baking spice runs along the edges, and the oak arrives late, dry and steadying, with a floral lift that keeps the whole thing from turning syrupy. At 80 proof (40% ABV) it stays supple, never hot, which makes it as easy after dinner as it is over a single large cube on a slow evening.
This is the bottle to keep within reach rather than save for a milestone. The 750 mL is a familiar shape on a back bar, and it holds up well to a splash of soda if you would rather stretch it into something longer.
