Frank Family Vineyards Napa Valley Zinfandel
Dry, dark, juicy and spicy. This is a full-bodied Zinfandel with ripe fruit and firm structure. The nose shows dark plum, raspberry and blackberry, with a touch of sandalwood. The palate brings black cherry, baked strawberry, dried herbs and cracked pepper. Oak adds cinnamon and warm spice. Ripe, firm tannins and fresh acidity carry a long finish.
Frank Family Vineyards, based in Calistoga, builds this wine primarily from its estate S&J Vineyard in Capell Valley, east of the Vaca Mountains within the Napa Valley AVA, with additional fruit from other Napa Valley sites. Recent bottlings blend about 90% Zinfandel with 10% Petite Sirah, which deepens the color and structure. The wine is aged in French oak barrels and bottled at 14.8% ABV in a 750 mL bottle.
Drinks well now and over the next several years. Serve slightly below room temperature with barbecue, smoked brisket, burgers or pizza.
