Mijenta Añejo Tequila
Cooked agave comes through first, sweet and vegetal, followed by vanilla and a soft edge of cacao. Dried fruit sits underneath, and cinnamon warms the finish alongside the oak. It drinks smoothly at 80 proof (40% ABV), with enough sweetness to work neat and enough spice to keep it interesting.
Made from Blue Weber agave grown in the Jalisco Highlands, this añejo spends 18 months across American white oak, French oak, acacia and cherry casks. That mix of woods explains the range in the glass: the vanilla and baking spice you expect from an añejo, plus a darker, fruitier thread that is less common.
It is additive free, so what you taste is the agave and the barrels and nothing else. A straightforward everyday pour, and a good introduction to aged tequila if you have mostly been drinking blanco. 750 mL.
