Samaroli Pacific Oblivion Blended Rum
Samaroli's Pacific Oblivion is a blended rum drawn from Fiji, distilled in 2009 and given fourteen years in oak. Fijian rum tends to run high-toned and a little wild, and this one keeps that edge while the years soften its shoulders.
Dried fruit sits at the center, dark and slightly chewy, with vanilla rounding the edges. Underneath there is licorice and a cool thread of mint, and the finish turns faintly medicinal in the way good tropical rum often does, with pink pepper prickling on the way out. At 90 proof (45% ABV) it drinks with real presence but never feels hot.
Single barrel and additive free, so what you taste is the cask and the distillate, nothing added to smooth it over. It rewards being taken neat, though a single cube opens the mint and cools the pepper. 750 mL.
